He's playing with LEGO less imaginative modern than it used to be?

Lego used to have years ago much less prefabricated shapes for specific models and I remember as a child to be creative with simple generic blocks and parts modeling. Now it seems like almost individual toys which can be built or dismantled, with very specific parts that are restricted in what else it can become. Or am I just becoming a grumpy old man too soon?

As a former crazy Lego, I also think that this is disappointing for the reasons you mentioned. There seems to be the least you can do with one kit in the today than it was in previous models.
