How to remove rust from a cast iron plate of age?
I recently purchased a van griddlis buger but very rusty. The man said that had been synonymous with a few months and I think this is a common problem. What is the best way to clean? I have tried soap and water and rubbing, but not seem to barely touch the surface. Any help appreciated!
First loosen the rust, then you remove it. 1. Loosen and remove the rust: Mix cream of tartar and juice lemon into a paste. Rub the entire sheet. The coating can be thin … will still work. Let the dough sit overnight. Then wipe the paste with wet paper towels and rub with a Brillo pad. Both the real cream of tartar and lemon can be found in any grocery store. Cream of tartar is with spices. Cream of tartar is the residue left after winemaking. It is very acidic and is an antioxidant extreme. Real Lemon (the material of the green bottle) is also very acidic and has antioxidants. Together they create a super antioxidant. Rust is oxidation. The paste is loosen the rust. The beauty of this remover oxide not only works, but the paste is not toxic … I could eat. Since you will be cooking in this area, I would not recommend the use of chemicals toxic in it. 2. Condiments After removing the rust, you'll want to season the iron. Cover pan with cooking oil and heat to 350 degrees for at least an hour. This season will help prevent future rusting. –
